How BMPR was founded....

We never set out to start a rescue.... it almost sounds a bit of a cliche I know, however it was never part of lifes great plan & whilst I always found relationships with animals far easier than with other humans & was always the one to help a waif or stray, my life has been one of an almost normal, 9-5 existence! We had recently relocated to Bodmin with talk of a less complicated life now in our 40's & found a small stable yard to rent for our own couple of ponies. A plea on social media was answered for nothing more than to help the local authorities with one pony in need (we had stated that whilst we had space it was financially irresponsible to take more) consequently four arrived (purely temporarily I was assured) & well, the rest is history, they were abandoned with us & we were left in a bit of a situation! It did however open our eyes to the equine welfare problems on our doorstep at the time & whilst it would have been so easy to get the ponies physically well, handled & new homes sought, I just couldn't look away.... And so it began.... A new kind of life, a new kind of normal.... BMPR was born.....

Nothing could ever have prepared us for what was in store over the coming years, the sacrifices in our own lives, the sadness, desperation, frustration... however in turn the joy, patience & understanding that have been brought I feel far outweigh the previous. These ponies have taught us so much & continue to do so. Our whole ethos & way of caring for our equine companions has been turned on it's head, from a traditional background to one where we aim to care for all of our residents in as natural a way as possible in line with their ethology. These ponies, this organisation, have become our life & to be frank, they have probably saved me as much as we saved them....

So, welcome to BMPR, a place of peace, a place of safety, a sanctuary for feral souls (both pony & human alike!)
